You will be asked this question when you meet people at a networking event, at an interview, an informal or formal event, encountering people at the local cleaners, grocery or even when you are getting a haircut. What do you say to these people? You will be asked this question whether you are starting out in your career or are a seasoned professional. Additionally, in your search for the perfect position, you may have all skills necessary to be successful in the role but you discover an obstacle which the hiring manager calls “Being OverQualified”. How do you overcome their perception? Marty Latman will show us how we can explain to others our Professional Value in under 2 minutes flat, and leverage “Being Overqualified” to our advantage. This month's topic: Employee to Entrepreneur through Franchising featuring Sean Haggerty.
Please register by 10/20/2025 - 2:00 PM EDT to ensure receipt of the meeting link. If you have registered for a previous WNO meeting, when you register this time, you can fill in fields where the information has not changed with "Same"! Sean Haggerty will talk with us this month about business ownership and franchising vs. a business start-up. He will delve into why people look to business ownership as a career, or maybe as a second career choice. He'll also go into the good, the bad, and the ugly of each - Franchising vs. Business Start-up vs. Acquiring a Business. Sean will then give us a more in-depth look at the franchise model and why it works for the right person. We'll explore the myths and misconceptions about franchising, such as franchising being only restaurants, retail and hotels, a need to be wealthy to buy a franchise, and corporate job skills not transferring to franchising. Sean will also describe the FranNet Candidate Process from A-Z - a step-by-step walk through how a candidate moves forward with selecting the right Franchise. Sean Haggerty joined FranNet, a 37+ year leader in franchise consulting, in August 2024 and is a Certified Franchise Consultant. FranNet has one main goal: to support aspiring entrepreneurs who are interested in exploring business ownership through franchising. Sean is also a CPA and CGMA. Prior to FranNet Sean had over 10 years of experience with franchising both as a franchise business owner with Better Living Patio Rooms, which he acquired with the help of FranNet in 1989, and as a leader at the esteemed Jackson Hewitt Tax Services ("JH"), where he held multiple management roles supporting franchisees. Sean's years at JH included roles in business development, franchise sales, and acquisitions, where he collaborated with marketing and third-party consulting organizations to identify franchisees that were a strong fit. Many of these franchisees became long-term, multi-unit owners, with several growing into the largest franchisees in terms of sales and profitability. Beyond franchising, Sean has held several executive management positions, most recently at Broadridge Financial Solutions, a global fintech provider serving the financial services industry, where he oversaw two business units. This month's topic: A "Win-Win" Workplace & What You Need To Know featuring Tom Frederick.
Please register by 09/15/2025 - 2:00 PM EDT to ensure receipt of the meeting link. If you have registered for a previous WNO meeting, when you register this time, you can fill in fields where the information has not changed with "Same"! Tom will be talking about how organizations use various types of structures for incentive, recognition, safety, and reward programs to support and drive corporate culture as well as sales through their own teams and channels of distribution. Understanding how they work and how they are structured will help to best leverage and engage in these programs and solidify your position and value to the organization. What may, at times, appear to be a poor use of funds, when well designed, these programs are actually self funding, tax-deductible & ideally profit generating, in particular for sales programs. Engaged employees are shown to be substantially more productive in whatever role they occupy. Conversely, disengaged employees cost corporations billions of dollars every year. Because of the work being required and options in the marketplace, it's no longer sufficient so simply have a job. So as a result, many organizations use these programs to engage, reward and encourage longevity. Learning how these programs are designed and various purposes they serve will help you to effectively and productively engage with them supporting corporate goals which helps to ensure the long term viability and profitability of the organization itself. Tom Frederick can be reached at 201 887 8034 and [email protected] Tom spent more than 35 years in Sales and Marketing roles driving business growth, offering strategy and program design with various agencies for some of the top names in a variety of industries. Programs included full marketing solution incorporating PR, Trade Shows, Promotion, Events, Sales Literature, Trade Publication advertising and various forms of engagement and reward programs aimed at sales organizations, employees and channels of distribution. Much of his career was spent providing strategy, planning and full execution of reward and recognition programs for major national and global brands such as Sharp Electronics, Sony, Panasonic, Snapple Beverages, Congoleum, Subaru, WURTH USA, Baume et Mercier, Montblanc, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and many other market leaders. Programs were designed to both reward immediate performance as well as encourage long term retention by creating a rewarding and positive work environment that recognized solid work habits and positive results. These programs, when well designed, have a material impact on productivity, team cohesion, focused efforts and retention, all of which are key ingredients to long term success.
